There are lots of cafes, bars and student hangouts in Loughborough, and it’s an easy hop to Nottingham, Leicester and Derby if you fancy a change of scene. The town is surrounded by stunning countryside, with Charnwood Forest, the River Soar and the Leicestershire Wolds, as well as idyllic villages for a Sunday pub lunch.
Book your ticket for top comedians, bands and theatre appearing at Loughborough Town Hall, just minutes’ walk from your student housing. The town’s Cultural Quarter has local museums, including Charnwood Museum and the Old Rectory Museum. But Loughborough Students’ Union is where you’ll find your biggest culture fix. It has 115 societies, including political and cultural clubs, its own TV and radio station, and a recording studio.
Loughborough began as a Saxon village but is now the second largest town in Leicestershire. Robin Hood roamed in nearby Sherwood Forest and Lady Jane Grey, the nine-day queen, spent her childhood in Bradgate Park. You’ll spot historic buildings around the town, including the Art Deco cinema. More recently, famous sporting alumni of the university include Lord Sebastian Coe, Paula Radcliffe and Sir Steve Redgrave.
Your student accommodation in Loughborough is three minutes from the train station by bus, and there are easy links to major road networks. Locally, buses and taxis will take you around Loughborough and to surrounding towns and cities.
