Things to do and see in Cardiff

For shopping, and entertainment, you’ll find your favourite shops around St Davids, Queen Street and the Arcades. Cardiff is filled with independent shops, so keep an eye out for these as you make your way around the city. There’s a thriving independent music scene around Womanby Street, as well as big-name artists at the Cardiff Millennium Arena and the Principality Stadium (also the home of the Wales national rugby union team). There’s the Sir Anthony Hopkins Theatre and The Wales Millennium Centre for a touch of culture too.

If you’re a foodie, head to Cardiff Bay for great restaurants, while Mill Lane in the city centre will connect you with the cocktails and fizz of your dreams. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the city, with cuisine from all around the world and some of your favourite well-known eateries.

Cardiff is a stone’s throw away from Brecon Beacons so if you want seriously beautiful scenery, hiking routes and plenty of nature then you’re in the right place. Snowdonia is further afield, but worth the 3-hour drive if you want to head up some hills. If you’re planning to stay a little closer to home then head to Bute Park or Sophia Gardens for a stroll.

Getting Around

Getting around Cardiff couldn’t be easier. Most of the city centre is accessible on foot, by public transport or in a private taxi. Local taxi firms operate in the area, as well as app-based transport services like Uber and Bolt.
Whether you’re travelling for work, fun or family, Cardiff has excellent transport links to the rest of the UK as well as overseas. Cardiff Central station is located in the middle of the city, with links to rail routes throughout the UK. Central London is less than 2 hours away from Cardiff by rail, as is Birmingham. The vibrant, buzzing city of Bristol is just an hour away by rail, or you can drive in under 2 hours.
The M4 is less than 20 minutes drive from the city centre and Cardiff Airport is just 30 minutes away, with direct flights to Europe, Africa and the Caribbean along with links to the rest of the world.
