The post Making long-distance relationships work appeared first on .
]]>Whether it involves a partner, close friends or family members, distance can create challenges around communication, connection and maintaining relationships alongside the demands of student life.
What is a long-distance relationship?
A long-distance relationship is any relationship where regular face-to-face contact is limited because people live too far apart to see each other frequently. While many people associate long-distance relationships with romantic partners, they can also involve close friendships and family relationships.
Long-distance relationships are a natural part of student life. Moving to a new city, studying abroad or undertaking placements can create physical distance between students and the people who matter to them. Relationships that once involved seeing each other every day may suddenly rely on phone calls, video chats and messages instead.
Distance often requires people to be more intentional about staying connected. Instead of relying on regular face-to-face contact, students may need to plan conversations, stay involved in each other's lives and find new ways to maintain meaningful relationships.
Why long-distance relationships can be challenging for students
Long-distance relationships can be rewarding, but they often require greater effort to maintain. Alongside academic pressures, new responsibilities and changing social lives, students may find it difficult to balance existing relationships with the demands of college or university.
Being apart can mean missing everyday moments, important events and opportunities to support one another in person. Financial pressures, travel costs, disability-related access needs and limited free time can also make seeing loved ones more difficult.
Distance can also contribute to feelings of loneliness, particularly during periods of homesickness, stress or transition. A recent UK survey found that 74% of full-time students reported experiencing loneliness, highlighting how common these experiences can be.
Challenges of long-distance relationships between friends and family
Moving away for education often means spending less time with established support networks. While technology makes it easier to stay connected, relationships with friends and family may still face challenges as routines, responsibilities and priorities change.
Common concerns about being apart
- Feeling like you’re growing apart:
When you're no longer sharing daily experiences, it can feel as though your lives are moving in different directions. While this can be unsettling, relationships often adapt rather than disappear, even if they look different from before.
- Communicating less often than before:
Conversations may naturally become less frequent as studies, work and social commitments increase. Less contact doesn't automatically mean a relationship matters less. More often, it reflects changing schedules and responsibilities.
- Worrying about being replaced:
Seeing friends make new connections can sometimes trigger worries about being forgotten. However, new friendships rarely replace existing meaningful relationships.
- Struggling with guilt:
Some students feel guilty for not staying in touch more often or for enjoying new experiences without loved ones. Maintaining relationships and embracing new opportunities can happen at the same time.
Communicating effectively when you can’t be together
- Focus on quality over quantity:
Many people assume successful long-distance relationships require constant communication. For students balancing lectures, coursework, part-time work and social commitments, that isn't always realistic. Meaningful conversations where people genuinely listen to one another are often more valuable than endless messages throughout the day.
- Be honest about your needs and expectations:
People communicate differently. Some prefer frequent contact, while others favour longer, less frequent conversations. Discussing communication preferences openly can reduce misunderstandings and create more realistic expectations for everyone involved.
- Avoid making assumptions:
Messaging can make it easy to misinterpret tone or intention. A delayed response often has a simple explanation, such as coursework, work commitments or a busy schedule. Open communication is usually more productive than speculation.
Handling different schedules
Busy schedules can make communication difficult, particularly during exam periods, assignment deadlines, placements or part-time work. Rather than expecting constant contact, focusing on regular check-ins and flexibility can help people stay connected without creating unnecessary pressure.
Challenges of long-distance romantic relationships
Long-distance romantic relationships often present additional challenges because physical presence, shared experiences and spontaneous time together become less frequent. While distance can test a relationship, many couples develop stronger communication, trust and understanding as they learn to navigate these challenges together.
Making virtual dates meaningful and fun
When couples cannot spend time together in person, creating shared experiences can help maintain connection. Virtual dates don't need to be complicated. Watching films, sharing meals, studying together or exploring hobbies online can provide opportunities to spend quality time together. The goal isn't to recreate being physically together, but to create meaningful moments that strengthen emotional closeness.
Dealing with loneliness and missing your partner
Feeling lonely or missing a partner is one of the most common challenges of a long-distance relationship, particularly during periods of stress, homesickness or major life changes.
Research involving young adults who had experienced long-distance relationships while studying found that they saw their partner an average of three times per month and travelled around 171 miles to do so. The study also found that 85% said they would see their partner more often if travel was more affordable, highlighting how practical barriers can make separation more difficult.
Although these feelings are difficult to avoid completely, there are ways to make them more manageable. Planning future visits, creating opportunities for meaningful time together online and maintaining regular communication can help couples stay connected between visits. Building friendships, hobbies and support networks outside the relationship can also create a healthier balance.
Maintaining your own social life and identity
While relationships can provide valuable support, they should not become a student's only source of support. Building friendships, pursuing interests and engaging with university life can reduce loneliness and support wellbeing.
Healthy relationships create space for both connection and independence, allowing both people to maintain their own identity while continuing to grow together.
Managing conflict from a distance
Disagreements are a normal part of any relationship. However, long-distance relationships can make conflict feel more challenging. Without regular face-to-face conversations, couples often rely on messages, phone calls and video chats, which can sometimes lead to misunderstandings through misinterpreted tone or missing context.
Conflict is not necessarily a sign that a relationship is failing. More often, it reflects different needs, expectations or perspectives.
- “You never make time for me anymore”
This often reflects a need for connection rather than a disagreement about communication itself. Discussing what helps each person feel valued and supported is usually more productive than arguing about message frequency.
- “Why didn’t you reply?”
Delayed replies can easily create misunderstandings, particularly during busy academic periods. Before assuming the worst, consider other explanations and communicate concerns openly.
- “You seem different lately”
University and college often bring new experiences, friendships and personal growth. If these changes feel unsettling, honest conversations about priorities, goals and the future of the relationship can help both people feel more secure.
- “You don’t understand what I’m going through”
Distance can make it harder to fully understand each other's experiences. Listening and validating feelings is often more valuable than immediately trying to solve the problem.
- “We keep having the same argument”
Recurring disagreements can indicate that a deeper concern has not been addressed. Focusing on the underlying issue rather than the argument itself often leads to more effective solutions.
Managing jealousy and insecurity
Jealousy and insecurity can sometimes arise when partners spend long periods apart. These concerns are often rooted in uncertainty rather than evidence that something is wrong. Managing them constructively can prevent unnecessary conflict and strengthen trust.
- Feeling worried about your partner’s new friendships
Meeting new people is a normal part of student life, but it can sometimes trigger worries about being replaced. Often, the deeper concern is wanting reassurance that the relationship remains important. Open communication and trust are usually more helpful than trying to monitor who someone spends time with.
- Comparing your relationship to what you see online
Social media often presents a carefully selected view of people's lives and relationships. Comparing a relationship to what appears online can create unrealistic expectations and unnecessary concerns. Focusing on the strengths of the relationship itself can help maintain perspective.
- Needing constant reassurance
While reassurance has value, lasting trust is usually built through honesty, consistency and reliable behaviour over time. Open conversations about concerns are often more effective than seeking reassurance repeatedly.
Talking about boundaries and relationship needs
Clear conversations about expectations can help prevent misunderstandings. Topics such as communication, visits, social media and future plans will look different for every couple, which is why discussing boundaries openly is important.
Relationship needs may also change over time as academic pressures, placements, exams and personal circumstances evolve. Revisiting these conversations when circumstances change can help both people feel supported and understood.
Making long-distance relationships thrive with the right support
Long-distance relationships can be challenging, but distance alone does not determine the strength of a relationship. Whether the relationship involves a partner, friends or family, communication, trust and realistic expectations can help maintain meaningful connections despite physical separation.
If relationship concerns are affecting your wellbeing, studies or daily life, additional support is available. Through the Student Assistance Programme and the Wisdom app, students can access confidential counselling, emotional support and wellbeing resources designed to help with challenges such as loneliness, relationship difficulties, stress and anxiety.

]]>We are pleased to announce that we have been appointed by Inhabeo to manage View Studios in London and Centurion House in Bath. We took over management of the two purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) developments from 1 July 2026.
This appointment expands our existing relationship with Inhabeo, for whom we already manage Benedict's Gate in Norwich, The Gate in Sheffield, Gulson Gardens in Coventry, Pavilion Point in Brighton, and The Refinery in Leeds. The appointment means we now provide full management services across Inhabeo's entire operational PBSA portfolio, following the acquisition of the properties in September 2025.
View Studios comprises 185 studios and is located in Bermondsey, East London. The property includes a range of amenities for residents, including a roof terrace, fully equipped gym, private bookable dining room, social spaces and games areas. The scheme benefits from excellent transport links across the capital, with University of the Arts London, ASU London, South Bank University and the University of London all within a ten-minute cycle, while King's College London and Queen Mary University are around twenty minutes away by bike.
Centurion House in Bath comprises 146 units, including 18 studios, 8 two-bedroom apartments and 112 en-suite bedrooms. Amenities include shared study and social spaces, with the property currently occupied through a nominations agreement with the University of Bath for postgraduate students. The scheme is conveniently located close to the city centre and just a 20-minute bus journey from the University of Bath campus.
Residents at both properties will benefit from our award-winning Be Wellbeing Programme, alongside our Platinum-certified level of service for PBSA properties, as recognised by the GSLI Spring Wave Survey 2026.
Commenting on the appointment, Sam Scott, Managing Director at Fresh, said:
"We are delighted to be expanding our partnership with Inhabeo, adding to the five properties within their PBSA portfolio already under our management. The addition of View Studios and Centurion House is testament to our commitment to providing a positive resident experience, and our expertise in both the London and Bath markets.
We're looking forward to welcoming the properties into the Fresh portfolio and continuing to provide Inhabeo with the exceptional standards they have come to expect from our operational team."
Commenting on behalf of Inhabeo, Helen Kings, Managing Director, Asset Management at Inhabeo, said:
"Bringing View Studios and Centurion House under Fresh's management is an important step in creating a consistent approach across our PBSA portfolio. It will allow us to share best practice more effectively, strengthen operational oversight and provide a consistently high-quality experience for residents.
We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Fresh and working closely with their team to support the performance of both properties."

]]>That’s where all-inclusive living in Cardiff can make life a little easier.
At Fitz & Knox in Cardiff, your rent includes many of the everyday essentials, so you can spend less time juggling bills and more time enjoying your new home. With your own private apartment, access to shared amenities and a welcoming resident community, it’s a modern way to rent that suits a wide range of lifestyles.
Whether you’re starting a new job, relocating to Cardiff, studying for an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification or simply looking for a more convenient way to rent, here’s everything you need to know about all-inclusive living in Cardiff.
What Is Included in All-Inclusive Rent?
One of the biggest benefits of all-inclusive living is knowing that many of your essential household bills are already covered in one regular payment. At Fitz & Knox, your rent includes, subject to fair usage:
- Water
- Energy
- High-speed Wi-Fi
That means no setting up multiple utility accounts, no keeping track of different payment dates and no awkward conversations about splitting bills with housemates.
Of course, some personal expenses aren’t typically included, such as food shopping, mobile phone contracts, streaming subscriptions and Council Tax where applicable. Before moving in, it’s always worth checking your tenancy agreement for the full breakdown of what’s included and any fair usage terms.
What Does Fair Usage Mean?
You may have seen the term fair usage before, but what does it actually mean?
In simple terms, fair usage allows residents to use included services like energy and water as they normally would, while helping to prevent excessive or unreasonable consumption.
It’s a practical way of keeping costs fair for everyone living in the building and encouraging responsible use of shared resources. Your tenancy agreement will explain how the policy works and outline any applicable limits.
Why Choose All-Inclusive Living in Cardiff?
Your home in Cardiff should be somewhere you can do more than just sleep.
At Fitz & Knox, residents have access to a range of shared spaces designed to make everyday life more enjoyable and convenient.
Need to squeeze in a workout before work? The on-site fitness facilities mean you can exercise without travelling across the city or paying for a separate gym membership.
Working from home? Shared workspaces offer a change of scenery when you need to focus.
Looking to unwind after a busy day? Comfortable communal areas – such as a roof terrace, coffee bar, cinema room and social kitchen – provide the perfect place to relax, catch up with neighbours or simply enjoy a change of environment.
Feel Part of the Community
Moving to a new city, or even just a new neighbourhood, can feel like a big adjustment.
That’s why Fitz & Knox is about more than providing great apartments. Through the Belong Residents Club, you’ll have the opportunity to take part in a variety of social events and wellbeing activities designed to help residents connect.
Whether it’s a seasonal celebration, a fitness session or a relaxed social event, there’s always something happening if you’d like to get involved. Of course, participation is entirely up to you. And, if you prefer quiet evenings in your own apartment, you’ll always have the privacy and independence to enjoy your home your way.
Why Is All-Inclusive Living Becoming More Popular?
Traditional renting often means managing multiple contracts, remembering different payment dates and dealing with separate utility providers. All-inclusive living simplifies the experience by bringing many of those essentials together in one place.
Some of the biggest advantages include:
- More predictable monthly costs
- Fewer household bills to organise
- A move-in-ready home
- Access to shared amenities
- Opportunities to meet other residents
- Greater convenience for busy lifestyles
Whether you’re moving for work, relocating to Cardiff or simply looking for a more straightforward way to rent, all-inclusive living in Cardiff offers a flexible alternative to a traditional tenancy.
Who Is All-Inclusive Living For?
One of the great things about all-inclusive living is its flexibility. It appeals to people at all stages of life and career, including:
Young Professionals
Starting a new job often comes with enough to think about. With bills included, shared workspaces and opportunities to meet like-minded residents, settling into city life becomes that little bit easier.
Key Workers
For people working shifts or long hours, convenience matters. Having your bills included, on-site fitness facilities and a home that’s ready for your needs from day one can make everyday life simpler.
Students and Postgraduates
Private apartments, reliable Wi-Fi and comfortable study spaces support independent living, while community events provide opportunities to meet other residents and feel at home.
People Relocating to Cardiff
If you’re new to the city, moving can feel overwhelming. Having your utilities already arranged and access to a welcoming resident community means you can focus on settling in with ease and exploring your new surroundings.

]]>The post The Ultimate Student Guide to Staying Active in Southampton appeared first on .
]]>If you’re studying in Southampton, you’re in luck. From scenic parks and coastal walks to student sports clubs and watersports, there are plenty of ways to stay active, whatever your fitness level or budget.
Whether you’re a seasoned runner, a gym regular or simply looking to move a little more between lectures, here’s your guide to staying active in Southampton.
Why Southampton Is a Great City for Active Students
Southampton offers the best of both worlds. As a vibrant coastal city with plenty of green spaces, it’s easy to escape busy campus life while still enjoying everything the city has to offer.
With excellent walking routes, nearby beaches, modern leisure facilities and two universities, there are opportunities to stay active all year round. Better still, many activities are either free or available at discounted student rates, making it easier to prioritise your wellbeing without stretching your budget.
Explore Southampton’s Parks and Green Spaces
One of the simplest ways to stay active is by getting outside. Southampton is home to a number of parks that are perfect for walking, jogging, stretching or enjoying activities with friends.
Some student favourites include:
Southampton Common
With over 300 acres of woodland, open grassland and walking trails, Southampton Common is one of the city’s most popular outdoor spaces. It’s ideal for:
- Morning runs
- Walking between study sessions
- Outdoor workouts
- Meeting friends and taking a break from campus
During the warmer months, you’ll often find students relaxing here after lectures or making the most of the open space with games and fitness classes.
Riverside Park
Located alongside the River Itchen, Riverside Park offers peaceful walking and cycling routes away from the city centre. It’s a great place to clear your head after a busy week or enjoy a gentle evening walk.
Make the Most of the Waterfront
Living in a coastal city means you’re never far from the water. Southampton’s waterfront is perfect for:
- Scenic walks
- Cycling
- Watching the boats
- Catching the sunset after lectures
- Open water swims at nearby beaches and dedicated swim spots
If you’re feeling adventurous, there are also opportunities to try watersports through local clubs and university societies.
Join a University Sports Club
You don’t need to be an elite athlete to get involved in university sport. Both the University of Southampton and Solent University offer a wide range of sports clubs and societies for all abilities, with popular options including:
- Football
- Netball
- Hockey
- Tennis
- Basketball
- Rowing
- Badminton
- Cheerleading
- Martial arts
- Climbing
Joining a club is one of the easiest ways to make new friends while keeping active throughout the year. Some courses even have specific sports teams that offer a less competitive environment and opportunities to socialise with your peers through sports and activities.
Discover Southampton’s Leisure Centres and Gyms
If indoor exercise is more your style, Southampton has plenty of fitness facilities to choose from. Many gyms offer:
- Student memberships
- Group fitness classes
- Swimming pools
- Strength training equipment
- Personal training sessions
Before signing up, compare membership options to find one that fits both your routine and your budget.
Explore the City and Beyond
Southampton is a relatively compact city, making it easy to leave the car behind. Walking or cycling to lectures can help you:
- Save money on transport
- Increase your daily activity
- Discover new cafés, study spots and independent shops
- Learn your way around more quickly
Even replacing a few bus journeys each week with a walk can make a noticeable difference. And, on top of this, one of Southampton’s biggest advantages is its seaside location. With so much to offer, especially on weekends, why not visit:
These nearby destinations are ideal for hiking, cycling, paddleboarding, or simply enjoying some fresh air with friends.
Stay Active at Home
Not every workout needs to happen in a gym. Your student accommodation can be a great place to fit movement into your day. Try:
- Morning stretching
- Yoga
- Home workout videos
- Resistance band exercises
- Short movement breaks while studying
Even ten minutes of activity between revision sessions can improve concentration and reduce stress. Plus, purpose-built accommodation like Fresh typically offers access to on-site gyms and fitness centres right on your doorstep.
Make Wellbeing Part of Student Life
Looking after your wellbeing goes beyond physical fitness. Making time to socialise, rest and recharge is just as important.
At Fresh, we encourage students to take a balanced approach to university life through our Be Wellbeing Programme, which offers a calendar of events designed to help residents connect, try new activities and support their physical and mental wellbeing.
Whether it’s joining a social event, taking part in a wellbeing workshop or simply chatting with your Residents’ Team, there are plenty of opportunities to feel part of the community.
Enjoy an Active Student Lifestyle with Fresh
University is about discovering new experiences, and staying active is one of the best ways to make the most of your time in Southampton, yet it doesn’t need to be expensive.
Whether you’re exploring the city’s parks, joining a sports society, walking along the waterfront or heading out to the New Forest for the weekend, there are plenty of ways to stay healthy while making unforgettable memories.
If you’re looking for student accommodation in Southampton, Fresh offers modern, welcoming communities designed to help you thrive. Many students find it helpful to separate essential spending from entertainment and treats, and most universities offer useful resources such as weekly budget planners to give you a helping hand.
Free Things to Do in London
One of the best things about London is that many of its biggest attractions are completely free. You could spend a weekend exploring:

]]>The post Student Health Reset: Easy Fitness & Wellness Habits for the New Academic Year appeared first on .
]]>Whether you’re moving into student accommodation for the first time or returning for another year of university, September is a chance to establish healthy habits that support both your physical and mental wellbeing. The good news? You don’t need to spend hours in the gym or completely overhaul your routine to feel the benefits.
From getting enough sleep to exploring your new city on foot, small, consistent changes can make a big difference to how you feel throughout the semester. Here’s how to prioritise your health and wellbeing while still making the most of student life.
Start with Realistic Goals
It’s easy to feel motivated at the beginning of a new term, but setting unrealistic expectations can make student health and wellbeing habits difficult to maintain.
Instead of aiming to exercise every day or cook every meal from scratch, focus on manageable goals that fit around your lectures, assignments and social plans. For example, you could:
- Go for a 30-minute walk three times a week
- Prepare lunch instead of buying it once or twice a week
- Drink more water throughout the day
- Stretch for ten minutes after studying
- Aim for a consistent bedtime
Building habits gradually is much more sustainable than trying to change everything at once.
Make Movement Part of Your Routine
Staying active doesn’t have to mean spending hours lifting weights or training for a marathon. Some of the easiest ways to keep moving at university include:
- Walking to lectures instead of taking the bus
- Exploring your new city on foot
- Joining a university sports club or society
- Trying beginner-friendly gym classes
- Cycling where possible
- Meeting friends for a walk instead of always sitting in cafés
The NHS recommends adults aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, but every little bit counts. The most important thing is finding activities you genuinely enjoy.
Prioritise Sleep
Between deadlines, nights out and early lectures, sleep is often one of the first things students sacrifice. However, getting enough rest plays an important role in:
- Memory and concentration
- Managing stress
- Supporting your immune system
- Maintaining energy levels
- Improving mood
- General student health and wellbeing
Try creating a bedtime routine that works for you, such as putting your phone away 30 minutes before bed, avoiding caffeine late in the day and waking up at a similar time each morning.
Fuel Your Body
Student budgets don’t always stretch to expensive supermarket shops, but healthy eating doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Simple, affordable meals can include:
- Overnight oats for breakfast
- Pasta with vegetables and pesto
- Jacket potatoes with beans or tuna
- Stir-fries using frozen vegetables
- Homemade curries or chilli made in batches
Cooking with your flatmates can also be a great way to save money while spending time together. And, don’t forget to keep healthy snacks nearby too, especially during busy revision periods.
Stay Hydrated
It’s one of the simplest student health and wellbeing tips, but it’s also one of the easiest to forget.
Keeping a reusable water bottle with you throughout the day can help improve concentration and energy levels, especially when you’re moving between lectures or spending long hours in the library.
If plain water isn’t your favourite, try adding fruit slices or choosing sugar-free flavoured water to mix things up.
Protect Your Mental Wellbeing
University can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. Adjusting to a new city, making friends and balancing academic work with everyday life takes time. Looking after your mental wellbeing is just as important as staying physically active. Some simple ways to support your mental health include:
- Spending time outdoors
- Keeping in touch with family and friends
- Taking regular breaks while studying
- Practising mindfulness or breathing exercises
- Asking for help when you need it
Remember, it’s completely normal to have good days and difficult days. A healthy university experience is about finding balance that helps you prioritise student health and wellbeing, so that you can better manage whatever the day throws at you.
Build Healthy Habits with Your Flatmates
Living with other students can make it much easier to stay motivated. Why not:
- Cook together once a week
- Try a local fitness class
- Go for evening walks
- Set study breaks together
- Explore your city and surroundings at weekends
Supporting one another can make healthy habits more enjoyable, and much easier to stick to. And, with every university city offering something different to explore – whether it’s coastal walks, city parks, independent cafés or sports facilities – getting out there can improve both your physical and mental wellbeing, too. Exploring your surroundings is one of the best ways to feel settled in your new home.
Find Support When You Need It
Starting university is a big life change, and it’s okay to ask for support.
At Fresh, student health and wellbeing is a priority. Alongside dedicated Residents’ Teams, many Fresh communities host regular events through our Be Wellbeing Programme, helping residents connect, stay active and look after their wellbeing throughout the year.
Whether it’s a social event, a wellbeing workshop or simply chatting with someone in your building, support is always close by. And, if you ever need additional support, Fresh residents also have access to a confidential Student Assistance Programme that provides professional guidance whenever needed.

]]>At Fresh, we know that student accommodation check-in weekend can bring a mix of excitement and nerves. That’s why our Residents’ Teams work hard to make your arrival as smooth and stress-free as possible, so you can focus on settling in, meeting new people and enjoying your new home.
To help you prepare, we’ve put together everything you need to know before you arrive.
Keep an Eye on Your Inbox
Before student accommodation check-in weekend, your Fresh property will send you all the information you’ll need before moving in. These emails will include important details about your arrival, along with any actions you need to complete before you travel.
As every Fresh property is unique, it’s important to read your pre-arrival emails carefully and keep them somewhere easy to find.
Complete Any Pre-Arrival Tasks
Before travelling to your new home, make sure you’ve completed anything requested by your property team. This could include:
- Reviewing your booking information
- Making sure your rent account is up to date
- Checking your arrival information
- Reading your property’s welcome guidance
Completing these steps before travelling means you’ll be able to start enjoying your new home sooner.
Download the Fresh Residents’ App
One of the easiest ways to stay connected throughout the year is by downloading the Fresh Residents’ App. The app is designed to make student living simpler by giving you access to everything you need in one place.
Depending on your property, you can:
- Pay your rent
- Report maintenance requests
- Receive important building updates
- Discover local events
- Access helpful support
- Connect with your student community
It’s worth downloading before you arrive so you’re ready from day one.
Shop the Essentials Before You Arrive
Forgotten something? Don’t worry. Fresh Shop makes it easy to order bedroom and kitchen packs, along with other useful university essentials, ready for your arrival.
Whether it’s bedding, cookware or those little extras that are easy to overlook, ordering in advance can save valuable suitcase space and help your room feel like home from the moment you move in.
Pack Smart
One of the biggest questions students ask before university is, “What should I bring?”
Although every student is different, it’s a good idea to pack the essentials first before thinking about decorative extras. Don’t forget:
- Important documents and photo ID
- Clothing for different seasons
- Toiletries and medication
- Laptop, chargers and other study supplies
- Bedding and towels (unless already included at your property)
- Kitchen essentials, if required
If you’re travelling by train or flying from overseas, remember that you don’t have to bring everything at once. Many items can be purchased once you’ve arrived.
Bring Your ID
When you arrive, your Residents’ Team may need to confirm your identity before welcoming you to your new home.
Bringing a valid photo ID, such as a passport or driving licence, is one of the simplest ways to make your arrival as quick and straightforward as possible. And, if your property requires any additional documentation, this will be explained in your pre-arrival emails.
Meet Your Residents’ Team
One of the things that makes Fresh different is our friendly onsite Residents’ Teams.
From the moment you arrive, they’re there to help answer questions, provide guidance and help you settle into your new surroundings. Whether you need directions to the nearest supermarket, have a question about your room or simply fancy a chat, your Residents’ Team is there to support you throughout your stay.
Settle Into Your New Community
University isn’t just about studying, it’s also about finding your people. During your time with Fresh, you’ll have opportunities to meet fellow residents through a wide range of social activities organised as part of our award-winning Be Wellbeing Programme.
From welcome events and games nights to creative workshops, cultural celebrations and wellbeing activities, there’s something for everyone, making it easier to make friends and feel at home. You can even take time to walk around your new city with fellow residents to explore the place you’ll be calling home.
If you’re feeling nervous about meeting new people and living somewhere new, you’re definitely not alone. Everyone is starting a new chapter, and saying hello could be the beginning of a lifelong friendship.
Support Is Always Available
Moving away from home can be a big adjustment, and it’s completely normal to experience a mixture of emotions during your first few weeks. And, at Fresh, your wellbeing is just as important as your accommodation.
Alongside your Residents’ Team and Be Wellbeing events, Fresh residents also have access to a dedicated Student Assistance Programme, delivered in partnership with Health Assured. This confidential service offers professional support whenever you need it, helping you navigate everything from academic pressures to everyday life at university.
Remember, asking for support is a sign of strength, at student accommodation check-in and beyond. And, by seeking out support at the start of your journey, you’ll never have to face university life alone.

]]>The post Renting Made Simple: A Renting Guide to Finding the Right Home appeared first on .
]]>We believe renting should feel simple, flexible, and designed around modern living. Here’s our latest How-To-Rent Guide to help you find the right rental home, and uncover what to look for in a property that truly works for your lifestyle.
Start With What Matters Most
Before booking viewings or scrolling through listings, take a moment to think about what you really need from your next home.
Ask yourself:
- What’s my monthly rental budget?
- How long do I plan to stay?
- Do I need to commute regularly?
- What local amenities are important to me?
- Do I need parking, outdoor space, or furnished interiors?
- Am I living alone, with a partner, friends, family, or pets?
Having a clear idea of your priorities will help narrow your search and make the renting process far less stressful.
At Fresh, our rental homes are designed with flexibility and convenience in mind, helping renters find spaces that suit both their lifestyle and long-term plans.
Location Matters More Than You Think
A property may look perfect online, but location often has the biggest impact on your day-to-day experience.
When researching areas, consider:
- Transport links and commuting times
- Nearby supermarkets, gyms, cafés, and green spaces
- Local atmosphere and community feel
- Access to schools or childcare
- Entertainment, dining, and social opportunities
Fresh properties are carefully located in well-connected neighbourhoods, giving renters easy access to the places and services they use most.
Budget Beyond Just The Rent
When planning your move, it’s important to think beyond the monthly rental cost. There are many more monthly outgoings tied to rental properties that are crucial to consider.
You may also need to factor in:
- Utility bills
- Council tax
- Internet costs
- Contents insurance
- Parking fees
- Moving expenses
- Upfront deposits
Choosing a professionally managed, all-inclusive rental property can also help avoid unexpected surprises later. Fresh homes are designed to offer clear, straightforward renting with transparent processes and dedicated support throughout your tenancy.
What To Look For During A Viewing
Property photos don’t always show the full picture. A viewing is your chance to decide whether a property could genuinely feel like your next home.
During a viewing, keep an eye out for:
- Natural light and ventilation
- Signs of damp or mould
- Water pressure and heating
- Storage space
- Mobile signal and internet availability
- Noise levels inside and outside the property
- Overall cleanliness and maintenance
Fresh properties are professionally managed and maintained, helping renters feel confident that their home is ready for comfortable day-to-day living from the moment they move in.
Plus, our purpose-built properties offer a wide range of amenities to match your lifestyle and social needs. From communal spaces and on-site gyms to our Belong Residents Club, you can build a community and lifestyle that helps you feel at home from the day you move in.
Understand Your Tenancy Agreement
Before signing a tenancy agreement, take time to carefully review the details. This is perhaps one of the most important steps to consider in our latest How-To-Rent Guide.
You should understand:
- The tenancy length
- Notice periods
- Deposit protection information
- Rules around pets or decorating
- Maintenance responsibilities
- Any additional fees or charges
A good rental experience starts with clear communication, which is why Fresh aims to keep the renting process straightforward and easy to navigate.
Why Professionally Managed Rentals Make A Difference
The best rental experience often comes down to more than just the property itself. It’s about how the property contributes to your lifestyle AND makes your life easier in the long run.
Professionally managed homes can provide:
- Responsive maintenance support
- Clear communication
- Secure buildings and facilities
- Flexible tenancy options
- Smoother move-in processes
- On-site access to amenities and social spaces
We pride ourselves on creating high-quality rental experiences that combine convenience, comfort, and community, helping renters feel at home from day one with Fresh.
Find A Home That Fits Your Lifestyle
The rental market can move quickly, but finding the right home is about more than simply securing a property. It’s about choosing a place that supports your routine, priorities, and future plans.
Whether you’re looking for city-centre living, a well-connected commuter location, or a modern home with professional support, Fresh offers rental spaces designed around the way people live today.

]]>The post What Does ‘All Bills Included’ Actually Mean When Renting? appeared first on .
]]>For many renters, inclusive rentals are becoming an increasingly popular option thanks to their simplicity, convenience, and predictable monthly costs. Whether you’re relocating for work, moving into your first rental home, or simply looking for a stress-free renting experience, understanding how bills-included rentals work can help you make the right choice.
What Is An ‘All Bills Included’ Rental?
An all bills included rental is a property where key household costs are bundled into one monthly payment alongside your rent.
Instead of setting up and managing multiple separate accounts, renters typically pay a single fixed amount each month, making budgeting much easier.
Depending on the property, included bills may cover:
- Gas & Electricity
- Water
- Heating
- Wi-Fi or broadband
- Building maintenance
- Contents insurance
- Access to shared amenities
What’s included can vary between rental providers, so it’s always important to check exactly what’s covered before signing a tenancy agreement.
Why Inclusive Rentals Are Becoming More Popular
With the rising cost of living and busy modern lifestyles, many renters are looking for greater financial clarity and convenience.
Inclusive rentals offer several key benefits:
- Easier Budgeting: One fixed monthly payment can make it much simpler to manage your finances, without worrying about fluctuating utility bills throughout the year.
- Less Admin: Setting up energy suppliers, broadband contracts, and payment accounts can be time-consuming, especially when moving home. Inclusive rentals remove a huge chunk of that hassle.
- Fewer Unexpected Costs: Bundled bills can help renters avoid surprise expenses during colder months or periods of increased energy usage.
- A Simpler Renting Experience: Professionally managed all-inclusive properties are often designed to create a smoother overall experience, with maintenance support and services already built into your tenancy.
What To Check Before Choosing A Bills-Included Rental
Not all “bills-included rentals are exactly the same. Before committing to a property, it’s worth checking:
- Which utilities are included
- Whether there are fair usage policies
- If council tax is included
- Whether internet speeds meet your needs
- If parking or additional services cost extra
- What communal facilities are available
Understanding the details upfront can help you compare properties more accurately and avoid confusion later.

- Flexible living options

- Belong Residents Club

Are Bills-Included Rentals Worth It?
For many renters, the answer is yes.
While bills-included properties can sometimes appear more expensive at first glance, bundling your monthly costs together can often provide better value, improved convenience, and greater peace of mind overall.
They’re particularly useful for renters who:
- Want predictable monthly costs
- Are relocating to a new city
- Prefer low-maintenance living
- Don’t want the hassle of setting up utilities
- Value convenience and flexibility
