]]>Stoke’s Croft is one of Bristol’s most recognisable student neighbourhoods. Known for its independent spirit, colourful street art, late-night venues and creative culture, it’s a place where students can experience a side of Bristol that feels authentic, expressive and constantly evolving.
Located just north of Bristol city centre, Stoke’s Croft is popular with students from the University of Bristol, BIMM, UWE Bristol and other city institutions thanks to its central location and strong student atmosphere. Living here means cafés, music venues, vintage shops, restaurants and nightlife are all within walking distance, alongside excellent transport links and easy access to university campuses.
For students wanting a vibrant city experience with personality, Stoke’s Croft offers a unique balance of creativity, convenience and community. Fresh’s all-new Croft Court places students right in the heart of the area, making it easy to enjoy everything Stoke’s Croft and Bristol have to offer.
Why Students Love Stoke’s Croft
A True Bristol Student Experience in the Heart of the City
Stoke’s Croft has become one of Bristol’s best-known cultural districts. It’s known for independent businesses, live music, alternative nightlife and a creative atmosphere that attracts students from across the city. And, of course, Turbo Island (for those that know Bristol well)!
Unlike other popular student areas – such as Clifton, Redland and the City Centre – Stoke’s Croft has retained an independent creative and cultural identity. Students are drawn to the area because it feels lived-in, artistic and social. Bristol locals often describe the area as energetic, central and ideal for students who enjoy nightlife, live music and creative culture.
The neighbourhood is also incredibly well connected. Bristol city centre, Cabot Circus and Gloucester Road are all nearby, while several university campuses can be reached on foot, by bike or by bus. Typical travel times from Croft Court include:

- University of Bristol: approximately 20 minutes walk
- Universty of West England: approximately 20 minutes by bus

The central location also makes it easy for students to explore Bristol’s wider neighbourhoods including Clifton, Gloucester Road and the Harbourside area.
The Stoke’s Croft Atmosphere: Independent, Creative and Social
One of the biggest reasons students choose Stoke’s Croft is its atmosphere. The area is packed with independent cafés, bakeries, record stores, music venues and late-night food spots that give it a distinct personality compared to other parts of the city.
Street art is everywhere throughout the neighbourhood, including some of Bristol’s most photographed murals and works associated with Banksy.
Students living in the area often describe it as:
-
Creative and expressive
-
Social and energetic
-

-
Full of independent businesses and venue
-

-
Independent galleries and studios
-
Record shops and creative businesses
-

Living in Stoke’s Croft means being surrounded by Bristol’s music, nightlife, creativity and independent culture every day.
Because the area is central, students can also easily access Harbourside, Park Street, Gloucester Road and Bristol city centre nightlife.

]]>The post Neighbourhood Watch: Student-Safe Areas in Dundee That You Can Feel at Home In appeared first on .
]]>Dundee is known for its friendly atmosphere and walkable layout, making it an appealing choice for students moving away from home for the first time. And, with the right accommodation in the right area, it doesn’t take long for the city to feel like yours.
Finding your place in Dundee
Getting to know the areas where students naturally gravitate can make choosing where to live feel much easier, helping you to put student safety first. Dundee’s size works in students’ favour. Getting around is simple, neighbourhoods blend naturally into one another, and most areas popular with students are well-lit, well-connected and close to key amenities.
Living near campus, in student neighbourhoods, or central locations means you’re rarely far from libraries, shops, cafés and public transport. These small details can make a big difference when you’re heading home after a late study session or evening out. Here’s a closer look at the areas where you’re most likely to feel right at home:
West End
The heart of Dundee’s student scene. Perth Road is lined with independent cafés, shops, bars and takeaways, creating a lively, social atmosphere throughout the day and evening. Its close walking distance to the University of Dundee makes it especially popular, meaning the streets are often busy with fellow students. The constant footfall helps the area feel welcoming and reassuring, particularly if you’re new to the city.
Blackness
Tucked just behind the West End, Blackness offers a quieter, more residential feel while still being close to the action. Known as a conservation area, it has green spaces, local shops and a calmer pace that appeals to students who want balance in a neighbourhood that feels peaceful and homely.
City Centre
Perfect for students studying at Abertay University or those who want everything on their doorstep. Living centrally means easy access to shops, transport links, gyms, restaurants and nightlife, all within a short walk. Purpose-built student accommodation is common here, offering added security features and a strong sense of student community in a well-lit, well-trafficked part of the city. Fresh’s Stanley Studios, located between Blackness and the City Centre, offers the perfect blend. And, with its On-Site Residents Team and Student Assistance Programme, your student safety is our priority 24/7.
Seabraes and West Park
These areas are closely linked to university life, with campus-affiliated accommodation and open green spaces nearby. They offer a practical, convenient location that keeps lectures, libraries and amenities within easy reach. The presence of university facilities and student housing helps create an environment that feels familiar, supportive and naturally geared towards student living.
Comfort comes from familiarity
Safety isn’t just about statistics; it’s about how a place makes you feel. Areas with a strong student presence tend to feel lively, social and reassuring, especially when you’re sharing space with others who are navigating the same stage of life as you.
We choose our Fresh Living locations with this in mind, placing students in neighbourhoods that feel active, connected and easy to settle into. Over time, familiar streets, regular faces and favourite local spots help turn a new city into home.
Support beyond your front door
Feeling secure also comes from knowing support is close by. To prioritise student safety, purpose-built student accommodation offers an added layer of reassurance, with on-site teams, secure access and a community of fellow students around you. It’s the kind of environment that lets you focus on your studies and your social life, without worrying about the basics. When your living situation feels stable, confidence grows naturally.
Every student’s version of “home” looks a little different. Some prefer quiet corners and calm routines; others thrive in busier, more social surroundings. The key is choosing accommodation that matches your pace and priorities. In Dundee, student-friendly neighbourhoods make that choice easier. With the right base, the city opens up – and before long, it feels less like somewhere you moved to, and more like somewhere you belong.

]]>The post Fresh Living in Dundee: Choosing the Right Accommodation to Kick-start Your Student Experience appeared first on .
]]>Dundee strikes a rare balance. It’s compact enough to feel manageable, yet vibrant enough to keep things exciting. And when your student accommodation in Dundee fits your lifestyle, settling in feels less like a transition and more like a fresh start.
More than just a room
Your student accommodation is more than just somewhere to sleep. It’s your base, and more often than not, your first home away from home that you can call your own. It’s where friendships form, routines take shape, and independence really begins. Whether you’re studying late, cooking with flatmates, socialising with new friends or enjoying a quiet moment to yourself, the right space supports all sides of student life.
Making sure that your accommodation is full of both shared and private spaces that make socialising feel easy and natural, and downtime feel truly recuperative. It’s about having your own space, without feeling disconnected from the people around you.
Location matters (more than you think!)
In a city like Dundee – Scotland’s fourth largest city – location can shape your whole experience. Whether you’re planning to study at The University of Dundee or Abertay University, living close to your campus means shorter commutes, a deeper integration with your peers, more time for yourself, and the freedom to say “yes” to last-minute plans without worrying about travel.
Being centrally located also opens the city up to you. Cafés, green spaces, gyms and cultural hotspots become part of your daily rhythm, not just occasional treats. When everything is within reach, student life feels simpler and a lot more enjoyable!
A community you can grow into
One of the biggest shifts when starting university is learning how to live independently, without feeling alone. Purpose-built student accommodation in Dundee, such as Stanley Studios, offers a sense of community that’s especially valuable in those first few weeks, less than a 10-minute walk from both the University of Dundee and Abertay University.
With vibrant social spaces, a full-suite gym, games area, cinema room, private dining, and regular residents’ events – all with bills included – living with Fresh at Stanley Studios means becoming part of something bigger than your own flat. It’s a supportive environment (through our On-Site Residents Team and Student Assistance Programme) that grows with you – whether you’re finding your feet or fully settled into student life.
Setting yourself up for success
Choosing the right student accommodation in Dundee isn’t about perfection. It’s about finding the right fit for you. A place that makes day-to-day life easier, supports your studies, and gives you the space to enjoy everything Dundee has to offer.
With the right place to call home, university becomes less about managing logistics and more about making memories. And in Dundee, that fresh start can feel right from day one.

]]>The post Student Tips for Personal and Dark Night Safety appeared first on .
]]>Student life is always packed with late-night study sessions, big nights out and last-minute plans. And while university is an amazing place to meet people and find your independence, it’s also essential to stay vigilant about personal safety, especially during the darker months.
Here’s how to look after yourself (and your mates), because staying safe and having a great time go hand in hand.
Know your surroundings
Whether you’ve lived in your city for a month or a year, it helps to get familiar with the safest routes home. Leeds, Sheffield and London all support the use of WalkSafe, an app that provides you with a map showing police approved ‘safe spaces’ to help you get home.
Make sure to stick to routes with people around, avoid shortcuts through parks and keep any valuables like your phone tucked away. If it’s late, think about getting a licensed taxi. Lots of university cities run Safe Taxi Schemes, including Glasgow, Nottingham, Dundee, Brighton and Bath. Just show your student ID, get home safely and settle the fare with the uni later. It’s a great backup plan for nights that run later than expected.
Stay connected
If you’re out in a group, be sure to check in with each other to make sure everyone got home safely. If you’re walking or travelling alone, share your location with a friend or let someone know when you’re heading out and when you expect to be back. Remember – group chats aren’t just for sharing your favourite memes, they’re one of the easiest safety tools you have!
Utilise the safety schemes in place
It’s worth making yourself aware of safety tools designed to help you:
SafeZone app: Supported by many cities, including Liverpool, Durham and Newcastle, this app helps you to raise alerts quickly, share your location and get access to campus security or first aid.
Ask for Angela: On a first date that doesn’t feel right? Many bars and restaurants UK-wide are part of this discreet initiative designed to keep you safe. Just ask for ‘Angela’ at the bar, and a member of staff will make sure you get home comfortably.
Text 999: If you can’t safely speak, you can text. Just register your phone first by texting REGISTER to 999.
Keep your space secure
When you’re back at your accommodation, make sure to always lock your door, never buzz strangers into the building and avoid leaving valuables visible from the hallway or outside. Fresh buildings already come with secure entry systems and CCTV, but small habits make a big difference too.
Keeping student nights fun (and safe!)
A few simple habits can make all the difference. Share plans with your friends, use the safety schemes around you when you need them and trust your instincts so you can enjoy your nights out without stress.
Fresh spaces give you the comfort and security to settle in, meet people and enjoy student life to the fullest. Find your perfect Fresh home and start your uni journey feeling supported from day one with our Be Wellbeing programme.

]]>From walks through Bute Park to exploring Cardiff’s wellness facilities, the city has plenty of ways to keep your body and mind in good shape this season.
Get outdoors
Cardiff is full of green spaces that make staying active easy and enjoyable, even when it’s cold. Bute Park is just a 17-minute walk from our Verse development, so wrap up warm for a riverside stroll or a quick morning jog. Other options include Gorsedd Gardens and Alexandra Gardens, which are perfect for short, peaceful walks followed by a warming hot chocolate. If you’re feeling adventurous at the weekend, the Taff Trail offers miles of cycling and running paths stretching all the way to Brecon.
Fresh air and daylight do wonders for your mood and energy, so make it part of your routine. Even 20 minutes outside on your lunch break can help shake off that winter sluggishness.
Explore Cardiff’s wellness facilities
If exercising outdoors isn’t your thing, then Cardiff has a range of indoor fitness and wellbeing options. Cardiff International Pool and Gym is home to an impressive Olympic-sized pool, plus a gym and sauna, while Hot Pod Yoga on Ocean Way offers space to unwind, stretch and recharge.
At Verse, you can benefit from an on-site gym, making it easier than ever to stay active throughout winter, and at Fitz & Knox, enjoy luxurious on-site wellbeing facilities, including a yoga studio and sauna.
Eat a balanced diet
Cold weather calls for comfort food, but that doesn’t mean you need to give up on nutrition entirely. Batch cooking can also make healthy eating easier; make big pots of chilli, soups or pasta sauces that you can portion out and freeze for later.
Cardiff’s food scene has plenty of spots serving healthy, hearty dishes. Nourish serves up delicious breakfasts, salads and smoothies made to order, while Crumbs Kitchen is a favourite for a veggie-friendly, nourishing lunch.

]]>Where the students are, the best restaurants, cafes and food stalls set up shop. Leeds is one of those places, as it boasts five universities, including the University of Leeds, Leeds Beckett and Leeds Trinity University, resulting in a diverse, thriving student community.
Whether you’re looking for a hangover cure, a date night diner or the best brunch in town, everything you could want is on your doorstep.
Food Halls in the City Centre
Belgrave Music Hall and Canteen
Belgrave Music Hall is a student favourite for good reason. You’ll find the chefs in the Dough Boys kiosk hand-stretching pizza, which you buy by the slice. The Queen Brie, Salami of Darkness and Baa No More are regular crowd-pleasers.
Slices range from £3.60 to £4.20, but the ‘half price slice’ offer runs Sunday through Thursday between 12-7 pm, and 12-5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
You’ll also see Patty’s Burgers, which grew so popular the pop-up became permanent. They have vegetarian and meat burgers, and their famous Session Fries are big enough to be their own meal. Deals include:
- Free chips with a burger from Monday to Friday, 12–5 pm.
- Buy one get one for £1 on selected burgers all day on Sundays.
- Session Fries for only £6.95 from Sunday to Thursday 12-7 pm and 12-5 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Kirkgate Market
Kirkgate Market Food Hall is tucked away in the heart of the market. Among the food stalls are Banh & Mee Vietnamese, the Yorkshire Wrap Company, and Good Boy Burger Co. Too Good to Go
One of the cheapest ways to eat in Leeds is with the Too Good to Go app, which is designed to reduce food waste. Participating cafés and restaurants put together a bag of surplus food which you can enjoy for at least half price.
