What is Clearing?

Clearing is the UCAS process that helps students find available university places after results are released. If you didn’t get any offers, didn’t meet your conditions, got better results or are applying late – Clearing is your second chance to find your perfect uni.

It’s also a great route if you’ve simply had a change of heart and want to switch courses or universities.

Clearing opens: 5 July 2025
Clearing closes: 20 October 2025

  1. Do your research
    Make a shortlist of courses and universities you’d consider. Have contact details ready and check the entry requirements in advance.
  2. Log into UCAS Hub
    On results day, check your application status. If you’re eligible for Clearing, your status will say “You are in Clearing.”
  3. Reach out early
    Call universities directly to ask about course availability. Be ready with your qualifications, UCAS ID, and a polished personal statement.
  4. Stay alert
    Keep your phone close – you might get a call with an offer! Answer quickly, as spaces can fill up fast and they may move on to calling someone else.
  5. Take your time to choose
    If you get an offer, don’t rush into accepting it. Think it through and make sure it feels right for you.
