Young people need our support more than ever, and being able to access mental health resources quickly makes a huge difference. We’ve been partnered with YoungMinds and Jigsaw for over 5 years and haven’t turned back since for a reason. They do amazing things to help young people needing support, and we want to help them on their mission to offer vital mental health services to every young person who needs it, every time.
For many years, we’ve dedicated the first week of March to fundraising for YoungMinds and Jigsaw, and for the first time in 4 years, we were unable to carry it out in 2021 due to Covid-19. But, we came back with a bang this year, and couldn’t have been happier to pick up the gauntlet once again, raising a combined total of over £1,525!
Here are some highlights from Charity Week and other fundraising events we’ve held throughout March:
Just as we give new homes to students, we gave new homes to pre-loved belongings at Charity Boot Sale events organised across our Fresh student homes in return for small donations to YoungMinds and Jigsaw. Students were bagging bargains all over the UK and Ireland!
Any clothes that were not bought were donated to the British Heart Foundation. Nothing goes to waste if we can help it at Fresh!
Oldway Centre (Swansea) and Bridge Street Exchange (Cardiff) partnered up with their local barbers, Gentleman’s Choice and Bonnie and Clyde Cardiff, who offered haircuts in return for donations towards YoungMinds.
Tudor Place (Chester) and Gulson Gardens (Coventry), organised Dog Therapy Days, offering students cuddles in return for cash for charity!
ONYX (Birmingham) teamed up with Aston University Hockey Club to row the distance from Dover to Calais (35km) to help raise those vital funds.
Bridge Street Exchange (Cardiff) and several of our accommodations organised raffles, offering amazing prizes including huge, life-sized toys!
Many pancakes were flipped, flopped and elaborately decorated by our residents living in our accommodations including Spring Mews (London), New Orient House (London) and The Barn (Exeter) on Shrove Tuesday to fundraise for our charity partners.
Our Central Services staff baked to the best of their abilities for their Charity Cake Sale, bought tickets for a raffle, and put their thinking caps on for their Charity Quiz, raising over £250!
So it’s fair to say, it was one busy month. To all those who took part and helped us raise vital funds for YoungMinds and Jigsaw, thank you!
Same time again next year?
