In light of the situation we find ourselves in today, it's fair to say we could all do with some happy, positive news (it does exist, promise!) popping up on our Instagram feeds. Luckily, over recent years, a growing number of accounts have been created that focus on just this. According to K9 Master at @wildlifecollege Johan van Straaten, over the past decade more than 8,000 rhinos have been poached in South Africa, which holds 80% of the world's rhinos.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since they started working in February 2018, the dogs have helped save an estimated 45 rhinos from poachers. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "In the areas where the Southern African Wildlife College patrol, the success rate of the dogs is around 68% using both on and off leash free tracking dogs, compared to between 3-5% with no canine capacity," van Straaten said.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #CelebrateGoodNews
